As announced earlier this year Annie is set to receive a special "Billboard
Century Award" at the ceremony in Las Vegas on 9 December. It seems she
will not be performing live, as she is not on the list of live performers. The
show will be aired live in the US on Fox 8:00 pm EST.

This Friday (29 Nov) Annie was spotted in the audience of the star studded "Concert
for George" at The Royal Albert Hall in London. The show was a tribute to
George Harrison who died last year.
As announced earlier Annie received "Billboard Century Award" at the
ceremony in Las Vegas on 9 December. But to the disappointment to anyone who
might have secured a ticket in the hopes to see her on stage she accepted the
award by video. Moby presented her saying that she would like everybody to see
the documentary "Bowling for Columbine". He later admitted that it
was in fact he himself who wanted to create awareness about this controversial
movie.

It seems now that working with Dave Stewart and Bono on a new song '48864' was
the last project Joe Strummer of The Clash embarked upon before he suddenly
died just before Christmas. The song is named after the number Nelson Mandela
wore as a prisoner of South Africa's apartheid regime and it will be used to
raise money to support the fight againt AIDS in Africa.
The song was planned to be played live by the three songwriters at an Aids benefit
concert Mandela is sponsoring at his former prison on Robben Island in February.
Now only Bono and Stewart will be able to attend. Other guests include Queen,
Macy Gray, Nelly Furtado, Shaggy, Jimmy Cliff, Johnny Clegg and Youssou N'dour.
Tickets will be given to invited guests and winners of radio contests. Read more
about the concert here: Mandela

From Mojo magazine: "We hear that BMG are planning to upgrade and remaster the Eurythmics catalogue this year. More details as we get 'em". There's some speculation among fans that this will lead up to the release of a collection of rare and unreleased tracks. That such a collection is in the works was confirmed by Dave Stewart last year.
Apparantly the Eurythmics debut 'In The Garden' is already out in the US (released 22 Jan) and garners a modest two star rating in music mag Rolling Stone. There's no mention whether this new US release has been remastered or upgraded in any way.
The South African charity concert that was to gather rock stars from around the globe, among them Dave Stewart and Bono, has been cancelled, apparantly due to organisational and contractual problems. Instead Bono reveals in an interview with Hot Press Magazine that he is working with Dave, Dr. Dre and other stars on an album for AIDS charity. The album will include the track '48864'.
The London music venue that Dave Stewart and fellow entrepeneur Mark Fuller reopened just half a year ago has run into cash flow troubles and is looking for a new buyer according to www.dotmusic.com
According to this article from Jamaica Observer Dave made a surprise rendezvous with Jimmy Cliff on stage at the Air Jamaica Jazz & Blues Festival earlier this month. Dave's been busy discovering new local talent in the home country of reaggae. Rapper Nadz has already been signed to Artist Network and another artist Camar is on the verge of joining as well.
In this month's Uncut Magazine Annie says: "Sometimes the muse abandons
you. It's what you call the fallow period and it can last a long time".
We won't have to wait much longer for a new album though. I mentioned earlier
June 3 for the release date and "Bare" for the title. In the short
piece in Uncut, the release has moved to May but the title is still "to
be confirmed".
Some people have already bought tickets for the Annie Lennox concert on May 23 in Zurich, her first real concert in almost 2 years. The date has been announced in Swizz media as well as on BMG's local website but ticket sales have been closed down for the time being. At Ticketmaster the message is to wait untill friday Feb. 21 where ticket sales will be reopened. If you're interested go to Ticketcorner's website - but be quick when/if sales open, the concert hall holds only 1700 seats.

The original Mandela/AIDS-benefit concert mentioned earlier was cancelled Dave has teamed up with Richard Branson and is planning a replacement show in late March/early April called "48864" (Mandela's prison number).

Join this year's fan convention in Düsseldorf, Germany, on 31 of May just four days after the Annie Lennox concert in Cologne. Lots of fun - a big quiz with great Eurythmics prices, fan made items, very rare video material and special guests invited. You can find all details about it all in the 'convention' area at ethrill.net
Alongside artists as diverse as Avril Lavigne, David Bowie and Basement Jaxx, Eurythmics donates a track for a new Canadian compilation "Peace songs" benefitting children affected by war. The 31 track double album features "I Saved the World Today". I have no confirmation whether this compilation is only for Canada or whether it will be released internationally. More info
Annie Lennox the milionaire. According to The Sunday Times rich list she has an estimated fortune of £30m and earns £3m a year. Still that only places her on the 976th place on the paper's Top 1000 of Britain's wealthiest people.
A French site confirms that BMG is planning to rerelease the entire remastered back catalogue of Eurythmics by the end of the year along with a compilation of rare tracks.

The Evening Standard writes: Pop star Dave Stewart had sweet dreams of founding his own entertainment empire - but they have turned into a nightmare. His Artist Network business has run into cash problems little more than a year after it was set up. The company lost £316,965 last year and has two county court judgments against it for a total of £16,393. Its debts top £2m and it is operating under a 'voluntary arrangement' - a deal with creditors allowing it to avoid collapse
German punk icon Nina Hagen is rallying together a bunch of female singers for a new charity single "United Women of the world". Annie Lennox, Liz Mitchell (Boney M.), Lene Lovich, Ute Lemper, Bony Tyler and Annisette have written a verse each for the song of which the proceeds go to Unicef.
It's now official that every Eurythmics album will be realeased in splendid remastered glory. Remastering means using digital technology to make the most of the sound of the original recordings. According to a press release Dave Stewart has supervised the whole process and each disc will contain rare tracks and remixes (some of them previously unreleased) as well as single sleeves, alternative, never-before-seen alternative artwork concepts and previously unseen photography covering the band's entire career. No track listings are available yet.
The disc of rare tracks I wrote about earlier is not mentioned which probably means it's been cancelled in favour of adding bonus tracks to the albums.
The albums are listed on hmv.co.uk for release in the UK on October 13. Unfortunately it seems the soundtrack to 1984 is not included. No info yet on possible release in other parts of the world.
