| 7 Aug '00: yahoo.co.uk reports: "Failed film director Dave Stewart has an unusual way of amusing himself - he projects Swedish porn films onto his neighbours' walls. The Eurythmics star loves to invite friends round to his luxurious pad in the heart of Covent Garden to demonstrate his hilarious stunt. British music journalist Nick Duerden revealed: 'He told me how on Saturday nights he'd invite friends over, and, after the consumption of a few drinks, would project Swedish porn onto the white building opposite in full 70mm magnificence. He'd continue with this ruse as it caught the attention of the people below, and would only switch the projector off when the crowd grew large enough to warrant police attention. Then, a flick of the switch would magically frost the windows, and his anonymity would remain intact.'" - Seems our Dave has been telling some poor journalist stories again, or..? 25 Aug '00: As you may know the first big hit Annie and Dave ever had was "I Only Wanna Be With You" (with The Tourists) a cover of an old Dusty Springfield song. A box set of 4 CDs spanning the whole career of the pop legend is set for release in the UK today and it will include a 64 page booklet with notes by Paul McCartney, Elton John, and Annie Lennox amongst others. 12 Sep '00: According to the local papers Dave Stewart has gone to Sydney for the Olympics - supposedly hanging out with Peter Gabriel. So what category of sports will the pair of them participate in? The "Sinead O'Connor likes me better than you" fist fight? No word of Annie showing up in Sydney, by the way. 19 Sep '00: "Luciano Pavarotti is in money trouble, and needs to call in celebrity guests on a new album so that he can get enough money for his pending divorce. Bono, Mariah Carey, Ricky Martin and Annie Lennox have already agreed to participate" - according to Belgian paper Het Nieuwsblad. I don't exactly know what this is about but perhaps the Belgians got it mixed up and the money is in reality for charity and not for the divorce. There should be an album coming out in October of this summer's Pavarotti and Friends charity concert where Eurythmics participated - that's the only sure thing. 20 Sep '00: Dave plans Interactive TV Here's a snippet from 'Daily Variety': "Musician Dave Stewart is planning to create interactive TV channels themed on classic pop acts. Stewart told Daily Variety Wednesday that he had discussed the plan with Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, Elton John, Bono, Lou Reed, Annie Lennox and others. Stewart stressed that the notion is still in its infancy, but the idea is to produce a subscription bouquet of a dozen cable and online services controlled by the artists themselves. 25 Sep '00: Last week Paula Yates, former TV-presenter of 80's music show The Tube died suddenly, only 40 years old. As personal friends of Yates and her ex-husband Bob Geldof both Annie and Dave attended the funeral Saturday. You can read more about the funeral at BBC. 25 Sep '00: Eurythmics can still use The Church studios. The Church is being sold because Dave Stewart wants to concentrate on other projects, mainly his multimedia venture The Hospital. That has been confirmed to me by Dave Stewart's financial director, who also reveals that Dave and Annie have been using the recording studios in The Church this summer after they got back from the short festival concert tour. Whether Eurythmics will still be using the facilities of The Church after the sale is unclear, but there's nothing preventing them from being 'paying customers' of the studios like other artists, of course. 20 Sep '00: Big News - The Church is for sale! Take a look at this ad. 'So what is The Church?' you may ask. It's actually the birth place for huge number of Eurythmics' classic songs. First Dave and Annie rented a studio to record in and later when they had the money they bought the whole thing, though Annie later sold her share to Dave. The building is an actual church in the north of London. They converted it into a luxurious recording studio - so for a fan like me it's pretty sad to see this bit of history go to someone else. |
