| The beginning of Eurythmics 80-83 Not only did the band break up, So did the love affair between Annie and Dave. But soon after, they decided on a new working relationship based on friendship and a dual writing - performing scheme. The initial idea was that the two would form a creative nucleus augmented by different combinations of backing singers and musicians for concert and recording projects. The duo got the green light to record material for an album called In the Garden on RCA U.K. (Though the Eurythmics later were signed to the RCA U.S. label, In the Garden wasn't available in the U.S. except as an import item.) Once the LP was complete, the duo lined up dates for U.K. concerts and set off in an old Volvo in late 1981 for a back-breaking schedule of appearances. It was a bitterly cold winter, one of the worst in recent U.K. history, and it proved an exhausting effort. Dave had a recurrence of his lung problems and Annie suffered a nervous breakdown. | |||||||||
