Annie stands up for imprisoned Tibetan musician On a rainy night in Tilburg, the Netherlands (17 June), Annie Lennox took the stage of the Festival Mundial, not to perform but to voice her support for Amnesty International's campaign to end the imprisonment of Tibetan artist Ngawang Choepel by the Chinese authorities. Annie paid all expenses for the trip to the Netherlands herself and arrived 20:45 in the middle of the concert of the Senegalese artist Baaba Maal to give a short speech. She asked the audience to use their mobile phones and send SMS (short text messages) to Amnesty International to protest the treatment of the political prisoner. |
